Read: Psalm 130:1-4

The Psalmist presented himself as deeply troubled spiritually. Out of the depths of his heart, he pleaded almost forcefully, yet humbly, for mercy. His spiritual struggle seemed to take a toll on his emotional well-being as he desperately asked the Lord to hear him. Submitting to God’s will, he acknowledged that only the Lord could righteously judge if iniquities existed and were committed. No one could question the wisdom and righteousness of His judgment and the punishment He would impose. However, with His authority to judge and punish comes the authority to forgive.

Food for thought

God hears the sincere prayer of repentance and the plea for forgiveness. He could be trusted to guide and help the repentant in their faith journey.

God’s act of forgiveness is also his authority to demand obedience. By going back to previous life of disobedience, forgiveness is wasted and may have serious consequences.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us” (1 John 5:14)

Prayer

Our Lord and God, out of the depths of our hearts, keep us strong in the faith. Lead us daily to Your path of righteousness. We are grateful for the forgiveness You granted us through the Lord Jesus. We cherish it for leading us more to the path of obedience. Amen.
