Read: Psalm 20

The Psalmist’s prayer is an ideal template for our prayers for others and for ourselves. There are five dominant spiritual truths that can be taken from this passage. One, our offerings must be given out of genuine love for God in order to be acceptable to Him. Two, our hearts’ desires and purposes must be aligned with God’s will. Three, our petitions must demonstrate selflessness and righteousness. Four, though worldly powers could be used for God’s purpose, we should not completely put our trust in them. Five, there is assurance that God will save, equip, and strengthen those who trust in Him.

Prayer Wishes of the Psalmist

The Psalmist addresses one who was anointed by God to fulfill His will. He tells him in detail about his prayer wishes for him. He yearns that the Lord deliver him from trouble and accept his offerings. He firmly desires that the Lord fulfill the anointed’s heart’s desires and petitions. In all these prayer wishes, the Psalmist is certain that God will save His anointed one. He trusts that God will fulfill his prayer wishes for this anointed one.

“But the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who hope in His steadfast love.” (Psalm 147:11)

“The LORD is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.” (Proverbs 15:29)

Prayer

Our God and Father, everything under Your dominion is founded on Your divine righteousness. We pray for deliverance from everything that opposes your holiness. Shield us from the lures of this world. Let our service in Your vineyard be acceptable offerings to You. Amen.
